Welcome to Books and Braids, a unique book club located in San Jose, California.
Our Reflection:
Books and Braids is a reflection of who we are, what we do, and what we represent. We are a group of African American ladies who share the desire to read, learn, grow, develop literally, mentally and socially in reading. Summing it up, we love to engage in conversation and to have social interaction. We represent a group of ladies who desire to connect with one another emotionally, spiritually and to our heritage, thus using the term "Braids".
History:
Books and Braids was founded in February, 2001. The book club came together with 10 ladies from different professional field, which we are continuing to grow. Our monthly meeting is held the first Friday of each month starting at 7:00 PM. We meet in the homes of our member's home. Meeting will alter due to Holidays and book function. Book meetings are held 11 months out of the year (February through December). The month of December we have our Christmas White Elephant Black Ornament Exchange Potluck Dinner. The month of October we try to have an eventful meeting like a mystery party or a girl’s night out.
Books of Choice:
The members bring to the table which books they want to read. The decision is based on the anonymous vote. The books we read are non-fictional, fiction, romance, biography, poems, motivational, Spiritual Christian and self-help books.
Our Mission:
Coming together to enhance our mind with literacy. In doing so, we mainly read and support African American authors.
Motto:
Inspire the Mind, Body, and Soul by promoting literacy through reading.

EXPECTATION:
> Membership fee is $30.00 per year
> Respecting one another opinion
> Participate in the group discussions
> Must attend 8 meeting out of 11 months
> Host one book meeting once a year
> Having fun
Membership fees goes toward food, website, gifts for guest authors, Christmas party, Birthday cards and gifts for certain acknowledgement. Each month a monthly report is handed out with account balance.
Prospective member needs to attend two consecutive meetings in a row before becoming a member. The cost is $5.00 (non-refundable) each attending meeting. Your trial fee ($10.00) will be taken off the $30.00 of the annual membership fee when deciding to join Books and Braids Book Club.
